Organisational Principles for the Election Violence Response Initiative
(EVRI-1)
We come together as coalitions, organisations and individual citizens
to respond to the rising hatred, violence and displacement that is occurring in several parts of our beloved
While we recognise that a political resolution to the disputed General
Elections is necessary to restore peace, we acknowledge that there are other
initiatives working on this. We will consequently focus our efforts on
mobilising all initiatives and energies towards monitoring violence, advocating
for peace and coordinating humanitarian efforts to respond to the needs of
people currently displaced and threatened by violence.
While the membership of this team shall be open, new organisations and
individual citizens will join based on these principles. The undersigned
organisations reserve the right to reject a request for membership. Membership
maybe rejected on the basis of confidentiality and trust concerns.
The Peace and Development Network Trust (Peace-net) shall act as the convenor for this initiative. Representatives from member organisations will be called upon to speak, represent and otherwise act in the name of this initiative. Representatives of member organisations or a smaller group delegated to do so will sign off all public statements that carry the names of member organisations.
