1. INTRODUCTION

PeaceNet Kenya is a national network of 120 NGO’s and CBO’s involved in peacebuilding. Our members are grouped in a total of 11 regional groups generally following the administrative boundaries.

PeaceNet is playing her role in current conflict by spearheading the facilitation and coordination of grassroots initiated peace initiatives and serving as the link from grassroots to national level.

 

2. PROBLEM STATMENT

In her efforts to facilitate information flow among peace actors, PeaceNet has acquired a SMS system that enables PeaceNet to effectively communicate with the stakeholders. However, the system is not fully utilized. The option of “remote bulk” sending is not yet enabled due to limited recourses. This facility would enable the peace actors grouped under PeaceNet to effectively coordinate and share information without straining their resources.

 

 

3. REQUEST TO CELTEL

PeaceNet would like to request Celtel to support the following:

 

  1. For an immediate phase of 3 month Allow our SMS no. 0738452422 to send free SMS. Approximately 50.000 sms’s
  2. As a long term solution we are pledging for reduced rates in order to keep the information flow for effective coordination.
  3. We often receive information that needs verification before we can forward to relevant institutions. For this activity we request for donations of airtime. 20.000 per month for 3 month for have a high impact.

 

4. EXPECTED RESULTS

The efforts by PeaceNet is expected to contribute to efforts of stopping the imitate violence and start building lasting peace by addressing the underlying courses of the conflict.

 

5. CELTEL IMPACTS

PeaceNet commits herself to promote publish the support given by CELTEL through our various channels, notably:

  • Our e-update that reaches approx 1000 national and international institutions
  • Our election violence reduction initiative that brings together 30 lead organizations in Nairobi
  • SMS, we will design a acknowledgement SMS highlighting some of the main contributes in this critical phase, among them would be CELTEL.

 

PeaceNet furthermore commits herself to avail any information that could be useful to CELTEL.
